2013-2014 Leadership Academy Program

DIFFERENCE, POWER AND DISCRIMINATION WORKSHOP SERIES

The Leadership Academy’s Difference, Power and Discrimination workshop series will provide skills and information to help administrators be more successful in understanding, developing, and supporting a diverse work environment. Focusing on issues of personal and institutional power and privilege across differences of gender, race/ethnicity, sexual identity, social class, age, ability, nation, and religion, this workshop will create opportunities for participants to examine their own experiences of difference, learn theories of difference and power, and apply theoretical frameworks to concrete situations in their own units. In doing so, administrators will develop strategies for creating a welcoming environment for all employees, recruiting and retaining diverse employees, supporting employees’ advancement, and managing conflict around issues of difference. There will be some assigned reading, and participants need to attend all three sessions.
